I have been involved with North Yell Development Council since 2003. It is great to be part of such a forward thinking group which has a track record of getting things done. I am very proud of all that we have achieved and how we support our community!
I have been involved with NYDC since 1991 and became secretary/treasurer in 2000.
In 1991 I was already on other committees such as the marina and hall and thought NYDC would be another way to contribute to the community.
I joined to help get the Garth Windfarm up and running and to help promote and improve the community in general. I want to make Cullivoe a place where young people come back to live and have their families.
Having lived in Cullivoe all my life and bringing up my family here I saw joining the NYDC as great opportunity.
Owning my own small business I can see the need in rural locations such as ours to help, encourage and develop.
North Yell has always been a place close to my heart, having grown up here and intending to place permanent roots here, I wanted to have an active role in it’s improvement and development. I’m keen to get involved to create a better community for all and I felt that becoming a director of the North Yell Development Council was the natural next step for me.
The reason I became involved with NYDC was to help with the construction of the wind farm. I am a retired railway civil engineer and also a geologist.
As well as being brought up and having a family here, I’m also a self-employed business owner in North Yell so there was no question I wanted to be involved with the NYDC. It’s important to me to make North Yell an attractive place for people to come and be a part of our community and to encourage young people to stay here.
I've lived in Cullivoe all my life and have a great love for the place and community. I'm very passionate about North Yell and keen to see it prosper and be a better place for generations to come so I joined NYDC several years ago in the hope that I might be able to contribute and help the community to bring ideas and developments forward.
When I was a young girl I was always in Cullivoe for school holidays as my family lived there. As a young child there were many activities to do and events to go to and it was a very exciting and inviting place to be. I made lasting friendships over the years and then then I married one of the natives and have settled down and had our family there. I join the NYDC to help be a part of the many brilliant things that they have done, are doing and will do in the future for North Yell.
I have lived in Cullivoe for almost 20 years. I was first introduced to the area by my daughter who had moved to Shetland with her family. My granddaughter’s ancestors came from Yell several generations ago.
I have had various jobs in Yell during my time here and at present I am employed by the NHS as a relief receptionist at the Yell Health Centre.
I have been so impressed with the work undertaken by NYDC for the Community that I wanted to get involved and recently became a Director.
I have lived in North Yell for the past 10 years, and after learning about the people, community and all the amazing volunteering work they do, I decided to take a more active role in the community. Having a young family, it is very important to me that North Yell is a place which everyone, especially young people, find a welcoming, thriving and progressive community. I believe NYDC embodies all of those aims, and I am proud to be part of it.
I grew up in Cullivoe and after over a decade of living south returned home to raise my child and work for NHS Shetland. I became an NYDC director because I genuinely think the north of Yell is an amazing place to live and has so much to offer. Being able to contribute to the growth of this community as a NYDC director is something I feel very passionate about.
I believe that Yell is a great place to live, and raise a family. I joined NYDC because as a group it is working hard to ensure that North Yell continues to have a strong community now, and in the future.
I have lived in North Yell all my life and raised my family here I feel very passionate about our village and what the future holds. It’s for this reason I joined NYDC. And I know we can make a good future for our younger members of the community. Cullivoe has a lot to offer.
